The Workshop on “the Opportunities and Challenges for Chinese Carbon market “was held successfully

 

On 9th May 2012, SCII and CCERA cohosted the workshop about “the Opportunities and Challenges for Chinese Carbon market “was held in Beijing which was also prepared by SCII’s CDM club.

Ms. Sun Cuihua Vice Director General from Climate Change Department of NDRC, Mr. Li Junfeng Head of National Climate Change Strategy Research and International Cooperation Center, Ms. Li Ting Senior Policy Advisor for Tsinghua Climate and Environmental Policy Research Center and Mr. Lv Xuedu Senior Advisor from Asian Development Bank, gave the honorable opening remarks. Mr. Bi Jianzhong (Assistant to the president of Beijing Environment Exchange), Mr. Qian Feng(Vice General Manager of Shanghai Energy and Environment Exchange), Mr. Wang Jing (General Manager of Tianjin Emission Reduction Exchange), Ms. Lin Danni (Shenzhen Emission Reduction Exchange) gave the key-note speeches on the progress of domestic ETS pilot sites and some critical issues. The speech from Ms. Zhao Daiqing (Vice Director from Guangdong Energy Institute of Chinese Academy of Science) was about allocation scheme for ETS; Ms. Zheng Shuang (researcher from NDRC Energy Institute) made the speech on MRV and Mr. Yang Jin (Information Director from SCII) gave the speech on ETS registration system. All of these were the critical issues from the design program of Chinese ETS. During the panel discussion, the participants share the opinions on: 1, the relationship between Domestic offset scheme and CDM; 2, the qualification and certification standard for DOE; 3, how the finance institute enters into Chinese market; 4, the position and expectation for the China provincial ETS pilot site.

More than 150 members attend the workshop which came from almost all the active buyers, sellers, DOEs and consultant companies around Chinese carbon market. 

Recently, the international and domestic carbon markets entered into the adjustment phase. In face of the uncertain future, SCII constructed the platform for all the China CDM participants to share the information and views on the opportunities and challenges on the future carbon market. Everybody showed great interests and passion on these topics and determined to push forward the development of Chinese carbon market together.
